MREP North Pacific is by and for fishery users in this region.

The Steering Committee is made up of a diverse group of fishery users involved in the North Pacific Fishery Management Council region. Partners from NOAA Fisheries and the Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game participate to provide insights, but the committee is guided by industry members and fishery users, and facilitated by MREP staff who serve as a neutral third party.

They come together annually to consider how the program can evolve to meet the needs of fishery users in the region, with a focus on the NPFMC process. The Steering Committee reviews participant evaluations from the recent workshop and presenter feedback; outreach strategy and whether our list of applicants indicates we’re hitting the mark or may need improvements; and determine the dates/location for the next workshop.

Program staff rely on this Steering Committee, as well as many other advisors within a broad diversity of communities in the North Pacific, to inform program development and implementation.
