Industry Leaders
A Highly Collaborative Program
In all program regions, MREP maintains its fishery-user-led, collaborative approach to ensure that workshops are regionally relevant while transferring universally valuable tools and information.
Each regional Steering Committee comes together annually to review participant evaluations and other feedback, consider pressing fishery challenges on the horizon, and evolve the curricula for the next cohort. We also discuss recruitment strategy, with the goal of attracting a diverse cohort of attendees to the next session, and set the dates/locations for the following workshop.
Steering Committee members commit to the Guiding Principles of MREP, working together to build regionally relevant, neutral education for fishermen to effectively navigate and play a role in the federal fishery management council process science and management.
We convene a National Steering Committee annually as well. A group of leaders from across all MREP regions, this committee helps chart a course for the national growth and endurance of the program. Leaders from across the nation share program successes, challenges, and opportunities, working together with GMRI to ensure program durability at a national level.
GMRI staff facilitate all Steering Committees to enable effective collaboration, ensuring a neutral education program that upholds the Guiding Principles of MREP and meets regionally unique needs.
